Because grant development, grant funding, and/or grant management are dynamic and rapidly changing fields, individuals are awarded GPC certification for a period of three (3) years. In order to remain certified, candidates must re-sit for the GPCI examination or satisfy the minimum certification maintenance requirements, including completion of the CMP Application, and payment of the certificate maintenance fee every three years.

Most individuals elect to obtain CEUs rather than re-sit for the exam. For one, it is less expensive, in terms of the maintenance fee (as opposed to paying exam fees and related expenses). And it is certainly less stressful. Within a three year period from the date of your certification, GPC certified individuals must earn a minimum of 105 points of profession-related activities in two or more professional development categories. In most, but not all cases, one hour of professional development is assigned one “CMP point. There are five professional development categories from which candidates can earn points. Categories include education, grant employment, grant professional performance, professional service and independent projects. As you engage in continuing education, professional employment and other related activities, we encourage you to create a file and journal that documents the work you have done. To help you in your documentation, GPCI has created a GPCI Certification Maintnenace Tracking and Reporting Form.
