ABOUT GPCI

Firm in its belief that certification should be done only within the most rigorous standards, the American Association of Grant Professionals (AAGP) formed an affiliated organization, the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI), charged with the task of developing and administering the field’s first psychometric certification program. Find more about the AAGP credentialing initiative on the AAGP web site.

GPCI, (pronounced "gypsy") is an affiliate 501(c) (3) public benefit corporation of the American Association of Grant Professionals (AAGP). It is dedicated to the identification of grant professionals who display outstanding expertise and ethical practices and the development of a certification process that meets and exceeds the psychometric standards for education and psychological testing.

GPCI was formed in 2002, drafted its bylaws in 2003 and received nonprofit status in 2004. GPCI was established as a means of ensuring the credibility, integrity and independence of the certification process that is a criteria of the National Commission of Certifying Agencies.

The Institute maintains its own appointed Board of Directors and bylaws that govern its operation, and defines its relationship to, as well as its administrative independence from, AAGP. GPCI’s sole function as an affiliate of AAGP is to develop and administer a psychometrically sound certification program that reflects an individual’s ability to provide quality grant-related services within an ethical framework. Through certification, GPCI hopes to strengthen the nonprofit and public sector’s ability to serve their constituents. In all of its endeavors, GPCI maintains the ethical standards and mission promulgated by AAGP.

GPCI and AAGP are partnering with the University of South Florida (USF), Institute of Instructional Research and Practice, a well-respected institution with significant experience in the field of test development, to develop the certification examination.
